Can A Fractured Tooth be Saved?

Fractured Tooth From Trauma

Cracked tooth

The  patient above fractured his tooth due to a blow to the face when playing basketball.  The nerve in the tooth was exposed causing a lot of sensitivity.  A fractured tooth is a dental emergency that usually requires a custom porcelain crown or veneer to restore the tooth.  In this case a root canal was also needed to remove the damaged nerve.

A root canal was performed on the fractured tooth to remove the nerve.  A large Rescue post was placed because so much tooth structure was missing.  The porcelain crown will be cemented to this post.

A digital impression was taken to create a porcelain crown for the patient.  Digital impressions are much more accurate than the molds dentists used to take.
